Roast Ham with Orange Spiced Rum Glaze Print Email


A great roast ham begins...with a great ham!

Ham or Natural Juice Ham
Whole cloves
Carrots, onions, potatoes, turnips, etc
Orange Spiced Rum Glaze * recipe follows

Choose a bone-in or boneless Ham or Natural Juice Ham (not a Water Added Ham, or a Ham and Water Product) of high quality watch out for over salted hams! Allow 1-2 servings per pound for bone in ham, and 2-3 servings per pound for boneless

Preheat oven to 275-325 degrees. Place in a roasting pan on a bed of root vegetables (optional). Cut a inch deep diamond pattern into ham and place cloves at Xs. Add 1-2 cups of water to pan and tent with foil.

Roast ham for 10-15 minutes per pound, and uncover 2/3 the way through estimated cooking time. Brush ham with Orange Spiced Rum Glaze several times during last 30 minutes of roasting. Rest 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving with more glaze. Smoked ham is ready to serve at 140 degrees internal temperature.


Orange Spiced Rum Glaze

2/3 cup Spiced Rum
1 cup Colorado honey
1/3 cup molasses
1/2 cup orange marmalade

In a heavy saucepan, combine rum, honey, molasses, and marmalade. Heat over a medium flame until bubbling, and reduce to a simmer. Slowly reduce by , stirring regularly. Use as a glaze and serving sauce on ham. Remaining alcohol will be negligible.
