To benefit their cause, today’s propagandists actively work to use the media to drive public opinion in their direction. Creating their own ‘scientific findings’, or ‘spinning' authentic findings to promote a particular philosophy, or demonize their competition. Sadly, journalists don’t always have time to check the facts, and are under deadline, so the truth often suffers and propaganda becomes common thought.
For example, lets look at the biggest news story of early 2004. For weeks on end, every newscast in the US and Canada was lead with shocking reports of farm-raised salmon and deadly PCBs. Did you hear anything once the story was debunked as biased and not based in science?
Dr Brad Hicks of Canada, one of the scientists who debunked the findings, wrote: “This is not science. This is politics. This type of yellow journalism belongs in a political publication where yellow journalism is considered an art.”
Once the findings were debunked, the story disappeared from the news, but not the minds of consumers. The propagandists had strongly swayed public opinion and benefited their cause – leaving millions of trusting salmon lovers grossly mislead.
When you listen to the news, it may sound like the experts are confused, but in reality they are following proper scientific method. While new findings, both meaningful and meaningless, are coming out all the time – but the basic message about our diet has stayed pretty much the same... Reduce fat intake and eat your veggies!
Don't believe everything you hear, and stick to taking advice from your doctor, and reliable scientific sources such as the Harvard Nutrition Source.
This myth is BUSTED!
