Local Fresh Produce
Updated 7-9-08

Thanks to our friends the Musso family in Pueblo and the High family in Palisade, we have the best selection of local produce in town!

Musso Corn Arrives Thurs 7-10!
Carl Musso expects to start picking sweet corn at sunrise on Thurs, 7-10, and we'll have it before lunchtime. We expect weekly supplies to be good well into August.

Colorado Cherries Are Here
Fresh picked Cherries from High Country Orchards in Palisade, Colorado! This is the last of the Colorado Cherries - get them while you can!

Fresh Veggies This Week:
This week the Musso’s Family Farm is sending us fresh... Green Beans, Beets, Basil Bunches, Grilling Onions, Yellow Squash and Zucchini and cucumbers.

Musso Farms produce is a Tony's Market exclusive!

Chile Roast in August
We hope to start roasting Musso's Green Chiles by August 23rd - watch the enews for more.

Local vs Bulk Produce:
Grocery chains and food clubs buy produce in bulk, either centrally or through large produce distributors – this saves them a lot of money. However, this system pretty much overlooks the small farmer.

At Tony’s we’re small enough to deal directly with the farms – and have been doing so since the 80’s! Everybody talks about local produce, but at Tony’s make great local produce happen!

Peaches & Cream Corn & Rocky Ford Cantaloupes:
Look for Musso’s Blue Ribbon Peaches & Cream Sweet Corn in mid July, as well as Rocky Ford Melons from the Musso’s friends in Rocky Ford.

High Country Orchards Peaches
The High family will begin picking fresh peaches any day now - and with 18 varieties, we'll likely have fresh Colorado Peaches right from the farm through the end of August.

Noted Denver wine experts Scott and Teresa High (Classic Wines LLC) own and operate High Country Orchards with their sons. Thanks to their passion and high standards, High Country Orchards grow some of the finest fruit in Colorado!

Musso's Family Farm

The Musso family has grown crops on the 100 prime acres surrounding their Pueblo homes for four generations. The family farm, fresh produce market and casual restaurant on highway 50 is a local landmark, famous for their fresh produce and Italian sandwiches.

With a prime piece of land along the Arkansas River basin, they have great soil and plenty of water for a wide selection of crops. The Musso’s are best known for their Pueblo Chiles and Peaches & Cream Corn – and have taken top honors at the Colorado State Fair many times.

They also grow: sweet peas, zucchini, yellow squash, green beans, basil, calabacitas squash, Vidalia seed onions, pickling cucumbers, watermelons and more! They pick their veggies in the cool of dawn and deliver them to us mid morning – it doesn’t get fresher than that!

The Musso’s also bring us cantaloupes from a farmer friend in Rocky Ford – they’re day fresh and we usually have an early and steady supply.

Look for fresh local produce from Musso’s Family Farm at Tony’s all summer long – and join us for the Musso’s Chile Roast this Fall!

High Country Orchards

Noted Denver wine experts Scott and Theresa High (Classic Wines) own and operate High Country Orchards in Palisade with their sons. Perched above the Colorado River they have 96 prime acres of land planted in cherries, peaches, and wine grapes.

Tony's is proud to bring you fruit from one of Colorado’s best orchards! The High family has surprisingly high quality standards and a passion for perfection, so they go to great lengths to consistently bring us the best!

  • They aggressively thin the potential peach crop early in the spring to lower the quantity and thus increase the quality of the peaches.
  • They pick each peach tree a minimum of four /five times in order to harvest premium peaches that are perfectly tree-ripened.
  • They harvest in the mornings, when the fully ripened peaches are still cool and firm from the night before (this provides better flavor and a crisp freshness).
  • They use digital sizing and sorting (not mechanical) which gently sorts the peaches without bruising them. This enables them to pick riper fruit for the best flavor.
  • They grow their peaches naturally and use integrated pest control management (IMP) to minimize spraying of our orchards and vineyards.
