Why Is Tony's Pork Better
Our unique USDA Process Verified Natural Pork buying program consistently gives us the best pork possible!
Truly great meats are a product of exceptional farming procedures and stringent quality standards, not a pretty package or an expensive marketing program. We're confident our Natural USDA Process Verified Pork program consistently gives us the finest quality pork in the state, and we back it up with the facts!
To gain USDA Process Verification, animals of naturally superior and proprietary genetics are segregated where they can undergo USDA monitoring and auditing on health records, feed content, handling, health practices, environmental protection, and humane transportation. To assure quality, our pork is held to stringent quality standards for consistent marbling, color, size, taste and overall quality.
When it comes to taste, it's all about marbling. Our natural pork consistently boasts a 4% marbling level, the highest in the industry!
How & Where is Tony's Pork Raised?
Our Pork is raised on 16 all natural farms located in west & northwest Iowa. These farms are all USDA Processed Verified (meaning, the pork chop you buy, could be traced back to the processing plant it came from, the farm it was raised on, that farms veterinarian, feed, and state environmental records) and are subject to audits by the USDA. Every lot is tested free of any antibiotic or synthetic steroid in muscle & organ tissue.
By using these 16 quality farmers we have been able to achieve the most consistent quality pork by size, age, quality feed (use of only wholesome grains & vegetable proteins, NO animal proteins used), marbling, color, consistent availability, price, & freshness. In addition we receive our pork deliveries up to 6 days a week, assuring the freshest product in town.
Are your pork farmers environmentally friendly?
The all-natural farms raising our pork are regulated by the state of Iowa and proudly respect all environmental rules and issues in regard to land, water & air. To assure environmental safety, these farmers use cement round waste pits to process animal wastes, rather than lagoons that can seep into ground water. The final product is used as fertilizer.
What is 'Enhanced Pork?'
You probably don't realize it, but up to 70% of the pork and chicken on the market today is "enhanced", that is to say it has added water, chemicals, oils and flavorings. This increases flavor as it increases the weight, usually about 15%. Put on your reading glasses and look very closely, it should be disclosed on the label.
If you are a market that lives and dies by low-priced ads and bargain basement prices, enhanced pork is a great idea - it increases the flavor and juiciness of lower quality meats, and at the same time increases the weight. Bottom line is it lowers your cost and increases your profit. Enhanced meats are becoming quite common in grocery stores, price clubs, restaurants and fast food chains.
Enhanced Meats at Tony's? Forget-about-it!
Enhanced meats have been around for some time, but we've always refused to offer them at Tony's. Our old fashion meats have always been, and will always be, 100% natural - with no added ingredients whatsoever. In addition we never use mechanical tenderizing, 'punching' tiny holes into meats to increase their tenderness (also a very common technique). These tricks of the trade allow markets to sell lower quality meats less expensively, but at Tony's we never use tricks or gimmicks - our secret is to simply have the finest products available and to back them up with the facts.
There is a reason Tony’s has long been Colorado’s finest market; we continue to raise the bar, setting the highest standards for quality products, value, and taste!
